Celebrating a Sacred Beginning and Looking Ahead
Published 30 June 2026
From Prana Pratishtha and daily worship to the Grand Opening, Chhappan Bhog, and Nirjala Ekadashi — a roundup of an extraordinary first chapter at Court Farm Place.
A historic milestone for Oxford Hindu Mandir
The past few weeks have marked a truly historic chapter in the journey of Oxford Hindu Mandir. What began as a vision shared by a dedicated group of devotees has blossomed into a living spiritual centre that is already touching the lives of individuals and families across Oxfordshire and beyond.
Prana Pratishtha Mahotsav
On 23 May 2026, the temple witnessed its most significant milestone to date with the performance of the sacred Prana Pratishtha Mahotsav. Under the guidance of Shastri Ji and his team of priests, elaborate Vedic rituals were conducted to invoke divine presence into the deities and establish them for worship according to the traditions of Sanatana Dharma.
During this auspicious ceremony, Sri Lakshmi Narayana was consecrated as the Pradhana Devata (Presiding Deity) of Oxford Hindu Mandir. The sacred rituals included Vedic chanting, homas, kalasha pujas, and ceremonial offerings performed with devotion and precision. The spiritual atmosphere throughout the day was uplifting and deeply moving for everyone present.

A community united in service
One of the most inspiring aspects of the Prana Pratishtha celebrations was the active involvement of the community. Devotees from all walks of life came together to participate in various aspects of the ceremony and preparations.
From assisting with temple arrangements and welcoming guests to helping with the placement of the deities and supporting the priests during the rituals, volunteers demonstrated remarkable dedication and teamwork — a true expression of seva (selfless service).
As the sacred proceedings concluded, devotees gathered for a magnificent Maha Aarati, offering prayers, gratitude, and devotion to the newly consecrated deities. The resounding chants, devotional singing, and collective prayers created an unforgettable spiritual experience.

Daily worship at the Mandir
The spiritual momentum has continued beyond the Prana Pratishtha celebrations with daily aaratis and worship at Court Farm Place. Each day begins with sacred worship that has attracted both existing devotees and many newcomers visiting the temple for the first time.
It is heartening to witness families, children, youth, and elders gathering together in prayer and devotion. These first weeks have helped establish a regular rhythm of worship and a strong spiritual foundation for the temple's future activities.

Sundarakanda Paath
On 7 June 2026, devotees gathered for a collective recitation of the Sundarakanda, one of the most revered sections of the Ramayana.
The Sundarakanda narrates the extraordinary journey of Sri Hanuman as he crosses the ocean to Lanka in search of Mother Sita — a reminder of unwavering devotion, courage, humility, and faith in the Divine.
The event brought together devotees of all ages who participated with great enthusiasm. The powerful verses filled the temple with positive energy and spiritual inspiration.

Bhajans by Oxford Sai Ram Bhajan Group
The temple was visited by the Oxford Sai Ram Bhajan Group, who conducted a beautiful session of devotional singing.
For approximately thirty minutes, the temple resonated with soulful bhajans dedicated to various forms of the Divine. The gathering created an atmosphere of unity and devotion as devotees joined together in singing the Lord's names.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Oxford Sai Ram Bhajan Group for sharing their time, devotion, and musical talents with our community.

Discourse on Sanatana Dharma and Hanuman Chalisa
On 11 June 2026, devotees had the privilege of listening to an insightful discourse by Dr. Rangan Ji.
The session explored key principles of Sanatana Dharma, highlighting its timeless relevance in modern life and its emphasis on righteous living, self-discipline, compassion, and spiritual growth.
Dr. Rangan Ji also shared profound insights into the significance of the Hanuman Chalisa, helping devotees understand its deeper meanings and spiritual benefits. The discourse was educational, inspiring, and greatly appreciated by all those in attendance.
We thank Dr. Rangan Ji for his valuable contribution and look forward to future opportunities to learn from distinguished speakers and scholars.

Purushottama Adhika Maas and Chhappan Bhog
June 2026 also marked the conclusion of the highly auspicious Purushottama Adhika Maas — a sacred period dedicated to increased devotion, prayer, charity, self-reflection, and spiritual practices.
To conclude this blessed period, the temple organised a grand Chhappan Bhog Seva. Families and devotees enthusiastically contributed various offerings, including sweets, fruits, savouries, and traditional preparations. The response from the community exceeded all expectations.
The beautifully arranged offerings were presented before the deities with devotion and gratitude. Following the prayers and Aarati, devotees came together to celebrate and partake in the blessed prasad.
More than a religious observance, the Chhappan Bhog became a celebration of unity, service, and shared faith — a reminder that a temple flourishes when a community comes together with a common purpose.
An overwhelming response from the community
The first few weeks since the opening of Oxford Hindu Mandir have been nothing short of extraordinary. The warmth, encouragement, and generosity shown by the community have been truly humbling.
Every visit, every prayer, every volunteer hour, and every contribution has helped strengthen the foundation of this sacred institution.
- Growing attendance at daily and weekly worship
- Participation from devotees across Oxfordshire and neighbouring regions
- New families discovering and supporting the temple
- Dedicated volunteers contributing their time and skills
- Increased interest in cultural, spiritual, and educational activities
The Grand Opening
Hundreds of devotees, community leaders, residents, and visitors gathered on Sunday 21 June to celebrate the grand opening of Oxford Hindu Mandir — a significant milestone for Oxfordshire's Hindu community and a new centre for worship, culture, and community engagement.
The opening ceremony was the culmination of many years of dedication, fundraising, and voluntary effort by local families and supporters who shared a vision of establishing a permanent Hindu temple in Oxford.
The celebrations began with a vibrant Kalash Yatra procession, bringing together people of all ages in a colourful display of faith and devotion. Accompanied by dhol drummers, devotional singing, and chanting, participants carried sacred kalash pots towards the temple.
Visitors gathered for a formal opening programme featuring speeches from trustees, community representatives, and invited dignitaries.
“This temple stands as a symbol of faith, perseverance, and community spirit. It has been built through the generosity and dedication of people from all walks of life who believed in creating a place where future generations can connect with their heritage, practise their faith, and serve the wider community.”
The celebrations continued with cultural performances, including traditional dance, devotional music, and bhajans presented by local groups and artists. As the day drew to a close, devotees gathered for a final aarati ceremony. Prasad was distributed to visitors, and families remained long into the afternoon, celebrating together.
For Oxfordshire's Hindu community, the opening marks the beginning of a new chapter — more than a place of worship, a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

Nirjala Ekadashi
On 25 June 2026, devotees observed Nirjala Ekadashi — one of the most significant Ekadashi fasts in the Hindu calendar, traditionally observed without food or water throughout the day.
Nirjala Ekadashi is associated with Bhima, the Pandava prince, and is regarded as especially meritorious for those who undertake it with devotion. The day also coincided with Gayatri Jayanti, honouring the manifestation of Goddess Gayatri.
Devotees gathered at the Mandir for prayers, chanting, and aarati, seeking spiritual purification and the blessings of Lord Vishnu. The observance added to the rich tapestry of worship that has defined our first weeks at Court Farm Place.
Looking ahead
This is only the beginning of the temple's journey. Plans are underway to expand spiritual programmes, cultural activities, educational initiatives, youth engagement opportunities, and community services.
Our vision is to create not only a place of worship but also a vibrant centre where Hindu values, culture, learning, and community spirit can flourish for generations to come.
July brings Guru Purnima, Rath Yatra, Devshayani Ekadashi, and other observances. Check the Hindu Calendar for full lunar timings and festival details.
Shravan at the Mandir
Shravan (Sravan) is a sacred month in the Hindu calendar, traditionally devoted to Lord Shiva through prayer, fasting, and special worship. For many devotees it is a time of renewed spiritual discipline and gathering at the Mandir.
Plans are now underway at Oxford Hindu Mandir to arrange Shravan observances and the usual poojas for the community. As our first Shravan in our new home at Court Farm Place, we are preparing a programme that honours tradition and welcomes families, youth, and newcomers alike.
Details of timings, weekly poojas, and any special arrangements will be confirmed shortly. Please look out for announcements on our WhatsApp community and Facebook page — we will share full information as soon as it is ready.
A call for volunteers and support
A temple is built not merely with bricks and mortar, but through the devotion, dedication, and collective efforts of its community.
As we continue this exciting journey, we warmly invite all devotees to become actively involved in the growth and development of Oxford Hindu Mandir. Whether you can offer your time as a volunteer, professional skills, event support, administrative assistance, cultural or educational contributions, or financial support — your involvement can make a meaningful difference.
Many devotees have already shown a wonderful interest in offering seva to the Mandir. We are grateful for this enthusiasm and are now working on formalising how volunteers can take part. Please look out for announcements on our WhatsApp community and Facebook page — we will share details there as soon as they are ready.
Together, we have created something truly special. Together, we can ensure that Oxford Hindu Mandir becomes a lasting spiritual and cultural home for future generations.
With gratitude
The Executive Committee extends its heartfelt thanks to every devotee, volunteer, donor, supporter, well-wisher, and visitor who has contributed to this remarkable beginning.
May the blessings of Sri Lakshmi Narayana, Lord Shiva, Sri Hanuman, and all the deities of the temple continue to guide and inspire us.
Om Namo Narayanaya · Jai Sri Ram · Har Har Mahadev
