This policy explains how Oxford Hindu Mandir & Community Centre may take, use, and share photographs, videos, and other communications about Mandir activities — including on this website, social media, WhatsApp, and printed materials.
Why we take photographs and videos
Images help us celebrate festivals, thank volunteers and donors, and share news with the community. They may show worship, cultural events, building progress, and community gatherings.
Consent
- Volunteers — when you register, we ask whether you consent to photographs or videos taken during volunteering being used for promotional purposes. You may decline without affecting your ability to volunteer in most roles.
- Children and young people — we take extra care with images of under-18s. Parent or guardian consent is required for volunteering and we avoid identifying children unnecessarily in public posts. See our Safeguarding policy.
- Visitors and worshippers — at large public events, photography may take place. Notice may be given at the event. If you prefer not to be photographed, please tell a coordinator.
Where images may appear
- this website and Mandir Monthly publications;
- Facebook, YouTube, and other social channels;
- WhatsApp community updates (where relevant);
- posters, displays, and fundraising materials.
WhatsApp and email
If you join our WhatsApp community or volunteer groups, messages are visible to other members of that group. Do not share personal data about others without permission. For volunteer coordination, we use contact details you provide in line with our Privacy policy.
Your choices
You can:
- update your photo consent when registering or by contacting us;
- ask us to stop using an image of you where practicable;
- request removal of an image from channels we control, subject to technical limits on social media platforms.
Copyright and respect
Please do not photograph or film others in a way that is intrusive, disrespectful, or unsafe — especially during worship. Commercial use of Mandir images without permission is not allowed.
